Obituary of Gregory Harry Hayduke

Gregory "Harry" Hayduke, 84, was called home March 3, 2020 to the arms of the Lord, surrounded by family.
Harry, born in Ukraine, one of the few whole families surviving WW II, immigrated to the US in 1949 and then to Syracuse in 1952. He was an active parishioner of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. Harry loved the Ukrainian mass and devoted himself daily to his faith.
As an Army cook in Atlanta, he met his future wife, Kathleen. After getting married in 1960 at St. John's Church, they moved to Syracuse, raised their 4 children while being active within the Ukrainian community. Harry was an active member of the Holy Name Society and Ukrainian National Home.
As a proud US Citizen, Harry owned and operated Hayduke's Hair Fashion in Cicero for over 15 years sharing his profession with his brothers, Walter and Zenon. In 1976, along with their children, Harry and Kathy owned and operated the Bel-Air Motel until 2004. Harry enjoyed the opportunity his businesses provided to meet and establish life-long friendships in a place of warm welcome.
Over the years, Harry became known as "the family cook," and "handyman," He was a parishioner of daily mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cicero. He was a generous, honest, loving man who spent his life in service to helping others. He loved life, laughing, cards, chess, and spending time with family and friends. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Harry is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Christine (Mark), Daniel (Cathy), Rebecca (Rex), and Stacy; grandchildren; Diane (Matt), Matthew (Liz), Zachary (Emily), Joshua and great grandchildren; Alex, Gabe, Lincoln, Vienna, Fisher, Max, and Rex. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry and Zenon (Janet), his sister, Mary, brother in-law, Walt (Carol), sister in-law, Nadia; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. Harry is preceded by his parents, Nicholas and Maria, his brothers Walter and Bernard, and son-in-law, Rex.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday March 9th at 10:00 AM in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. Harry will be laid to rest in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3-5PM at the Macko-Vassallo Funeral Home, 1609 W. Genesee St. The Holy Name Society will recite the Rosary at 4PM and the Panakhyda Services will Be held at 5PM at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the VA Hospital for always taking care of Mr. Hayduke with concern and love.
